Two new Nature-based Solutions (NbS) projects were approved under the Philippines-Canada Partnership on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Climate Adaptation (PCP4NbS), with a combined grant amount of PHP 12.41 million. The first is “Improving Climate Resilience of Headwater Barangays in Sumlog-Cuabo River Watershed (Resilient Headwaters)”, implemented by Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc. (KDFI) in Davao. The project aims to enhance the resilience of upstream communities through watershed protection and nature-based approaches. Also approved is “Strengthening Hilongos’ Ecosystems through Women’s Involvement in Nature-based Solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation (SHE WINS-DRRCA)”, to be implemented by Oxfam Pilipinas, Inc. Meet the fellows of our Angat Bayi: Feminist Leaders Fellowship for Nature-based Solutions (AB FLF4NbS)! A collaboration between Forest Foundation Philippines and Bayi, Inc., the AB FLF4NbS brings together 23 fellows from across the Philippines – women elected officials and women leaders from civil society organizations in Agusan del Sur, Basilan, Batanes, Camarines Sur, Davao Oriental, Eastern Samar, Lanao del Sur, Leyte, Misamis Oriental, Negros Occidental, Palawan, Surigao del Norte, and Zamboanga del Norte – to enhance women’s leadership, cross-cultural, cross-ecosystem learning exchange on gender-responsive NbS, and engender environmental governance. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, with the support from Forest Foundation Philippines, the Government of Canada, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the NbS Support Network, launched the country’s first national-level Nature-based Solutions (NbS) policy at the USBONG Transdisciplinary Forum on Nature-based Solutions last June 30, 2026, mandating the integration of nature-based approaches into the country’s climate, biodiversity, and disaster risk reduction programs. The USBONG NbS Forum marked a commitment to growing and sustaining conversations on NbS as one of the vital approaches to addressing interconnected societal challenges. USBONG brought together diverse stakeholders  to deepen understanding of high-integrity, gender-responsive NbS in the Philippine context, strengthen connections, and advance systems, partnerships, and enabling conditions needed for sustained and scalable action.
